Kodiak Bears
I grew up in Kodiak, Alaska, home of the giant Grizzly Bears. I was
visiting home in the Summer of 2000 and had an opportunity to fly down
to one of their feeding spots on a river. These pictures were taken
after about a 1/2 mile walk from the lake where we landed the float
plane. In some cases we were as close as 150-200 feet or so.
These are mostly 'small' (!) 3-year old Kodiaks - they probably weigh
in the vicinity of 900 lbs or so. The really Big Boys are kind of shy
and much harder to find and see.
